Comeback: A Mother and Daughter’s Journey Through Hell and Back

How does a Jewish honor student from Los Angeles end up doing drugs in the back of a van in rural Indiana? The compelling story of this young girl and her mother’s desperate attempts to save her life is captured in their book, Comeback, offering a close-up look at the destructive impact of drugs and alcohol.

The authors, Claire and Mia Fontaine, will speak about their experiences at a community event sponsored by Jewish Addiction Services on Sunday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m.

“Too many teens have died of drug-related causes in the past year; six have died in just the past three months, said Aviva Weisbord, executive director of Jewish Addiction Services (JAS). “We want the community to hear the unforgettable story of a mother and daughter in a wrenching battle against this disease. We want people to realize the power of love and the strength of the parent-child relationship in transforming a life. Comeback is the story of struggle and success, despair and love, and how the ‘perfect life’ can become a nightmare. Most of all, we want to help people think about risky behaviors and how to prevent them.

Jewish Addiction Services, an agency of THE ASSOCIATED: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, meets the needs of those in our community affected by drug, alcohol or substance abuse. JAS provides prevention, counseling and treatment programs and helps those seeking recovery find the assistance they need. The agency is bringing the Fontaines to Baltimore to educate teens, parents and young adults about the dangers of risky behaviors and to emphasize the reality that addiction happens in the Jewish community, too.
