Teen Outreach Staff
Professionally trained JOIN for Teens outreach staff are available to teens ages 11-18 and their families for consultation, resources and referrals. Additionally, one of our outreach workers works with Russian speaking teens and their families. Outreach staff can be found where the teens are. Teen Outreach staff are out in the community connecting with teens on the streets as well as at the Mitchell David Teen Center, at the Jewish Community Centers, local hangouts, schools and synagogues. Outreach staff develop, supervise and facilitate recreational opportunities and small group discussions at the Teen Center and in the community.

Mitchell David Teen Center
The Mitchell David Teen Center is a drop- in Center for high school age students. The Center provides a safe alternative to the streets and local hang-outs and is staffed by the professionally trained Teen Outreach Workers. The Center is open on certain weekday evenings and on the weekend. High School students can attend during drop-in hours. The Center offers a computer lab, large screen TV room, pool tables, ping-pong, air-hockey, table games, karaoke, musical instruments to jam and a meeting room. In addition, popular regularly scheduled band nights are held at the Center. Opportunities for Youth Groups to use the Center are available.

NFTE
JOIN for Teens offers the NFTE Biz Class. The goal of NFTE, the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, is to help students become more productive and responsible via entrepreneurial training. The NFTE Biz class helps youths develop a set of marketable and transferable skills. Through its internationally recognized curriculum and teacher certification programs, NFTE helps students channel their energy, mental toughness, creativity and salesmanship into legitimate mainstream business activity.

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AND TESTING (PERT) CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
For parents with children experiencing educational, behavioral, or emotional difficulties, the PERT Center offers evaluation services, including clinical interviews and psycho-educational testing, to help parents understand a child’s special needs and develop plans to resolve problems.

THE STEVEN KAUFMAN AIDS OUTREACH PROJECT
The Steven Kaufman AIDS Outreach Project, established in memory of Steven Kaufman by his family, offers education and outreach to raise community awareness about HIV/AIDS and the risky behaviors associated with the spread of the virus - while addressing the issues of personal responsibility and values in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The 18 Below Teen Center at the Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC provides a “teen friendly” atmosphere for socializing. It features a large screen television, accompanying audio equipment and “surround sound,” a billiards table, air hockey, table tennis, arcade games, and lounge space. The Teen Center also houses a Computer Lounge with 15 computers, each providing controlled Internet access, instant messaging, and an array of software programs.
A Teen Lounge space, Game Room and an adjacent office space for teen staff have opened at the Weinberg Park Heights JCC. This area features a billiards table, television with DVD player, games and other activities. This space allows for additional programming opportunities for teens.

The Jewish Vocational Service offers teens an opportunity to learn about the world of work and how to get a job. Career Services are available for high school students who are in their junior or final year of High School. Specific services include: career counseling, career development workshops, and vocational testing. There are also programs for teens with disabilities or barriers to employment. Several times during the school year JVS sends a career counselor to the Mitchell David Teen Center to answer work related questions. In the spring JVS offers a “Teen Summer Jobs” event.

Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC) brings together people who want meaningful, hands-on volunteer experiences. Volunteers serve the Baltimore Jewish and general communities in a variety of ways. Anyone—children, teens, young or older adults, singles and families, professional colleagues or a group of friends—can volunteer. And, you can participate in our activities as often as you have time, whether it’s once a week or once a year. JVC provides information and referrals for ongoing volunteering as well as one-time community service events. We also act as a volunteer locator for agencies and programs and as a consultant for groups looking for special volunteer projects.
